INTO THE SHADOWS – FRIDAY’S PHLOG FOR NOVEMBER 6, 2015

into the shadows

she felt his presence behind her as she walked through the darkness,

she struggled to keep her composure as she sensed he was near,

she  was looking for a place to hide when she saw a group of trick-or-treaters,

and walked amongst their shadows to hide from the presence lurking behind her,

suddenly she found herself alone to face the dark figure,

breathing in his scent she recognized his presence,

causing her confusion as he hadn’t been an earthly being for several years,

suddenly time stood still as she looked into her lover’s eyes,

her body filled with panic as he snuggled into her neck,

she felt his warmth as he moved his lips from her neck to her lips,

passionately kissing her and caressing her body,

flooded with memories of his tenderness as she parted her lips,

feeling the familiar tingling running through her body,

closing her eyes memories of their lovemaking

possessed her mind, body and soul,

as time stood still for two distant lovers,

a mortal creature caught between the realms of earth

and the spiritual world,

suddenly she found herself alone

as if he never existed,

to walk down the street

back

into the shadows.

ALL HALLOWS’ EVE – FRIDAY’S PHLOG FOR OCTOBER 31, 2014

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOn All Hallows’ Eve, the dead will rise to walk the earth amidst you and I,

barriers are breached ‘tween their world and ours as lost souls flow forth

and cause men to cower.  The Lord of the Dead releases their

bonds to roam the creation from dusk until dawn.

The Evil of the night is kept at bay by fashioned masks bearing unholy

traits while candles are lit so the spirits may find the family and friends

they left behind.  Listen to the whispers in songs on the wind,

they’ll reveal your future if you welcome them in.

The dearly departed are invited to feast or tricks will be played if

you deny them a treat.  Forgotten are the tales the elders once

weaved, but they come back to haunt on All Hallows’ Eve.

CREEPY HALLOWEEN – THURSDAY’S PHLOG – OCTOBER 31, 2013

halloween Collage 3PicMonkey Collage 5Every year we decorate to the max – all creepy and scary.  When the boys were younger I use to have to take them out the back door to “trick or treat”  because they were too scared to go out the front door!   I hope they hold on to our family traditions as crazy as some of the traditions are – it is who we are!  Happy Halloween everyone – may yours be frightfully fun…

THE PREPARATION BEGINS…

We are Halloween people and usually we start our Halloween preparations at least a week or more before the big event.  This year we’ve been so busy it was tempting to just carve a single pumpkin and buy  candies – c’est tout!   We just can’t do it!  We even tried to put out just a few things – can’t do that either.  Wednesday is Halloween and we’re just getting everything up tonight only to be taken down in a couple of days.  In the midst of all the preparations, my oldest decides to make chocolate chip cookies for the gang that’s coming over Halloween night.  I’m thinking there will be enough candy  and chocolate bars to last us until next year!  He insisted and rather than complain about the mess –  I said go for it!   Tomorrow I’ve got one big pot of chilli to cook and a house to clean.  I can leave the dust because dust and Halloween go together.  Lots of work but look at those smiles, makes it all worth it…Wishing everyone has a safe and fun Halloween..

BAFOON IN THE MONKEY SUIT

Last weekend, like all of our weekends, it was a loaded one.  Hockey practices, hockey games, painted a room, carved pumpkins, finished  Halloween decorations, made chilli for guest coming over Halloween night – just to name a few.  Sunday morning I went to my son’s hockey game for 9:15 am.  I’m sitting in the stands waiting for the kids to go on the ice and I see this bafoon in a monkey suit walking in the lower part of the arena.  He goes into the other team’s bench and I realize he’s the head coach.  I sat there for a moment and thought, why the hell is this guy wearing a Gorilla suit, then it dawns on me – its Halloween.  The only person in the whole arena wearing a Halloween costume.  At first I thought he looks like an idiot and an idiot he did look like!  He then scanned the crowd, I’m not sure what or who he was looking for, when he scanned my area I gave him a thumbs up, for which he rewarded me with his hands up and beat his chest.  I guess he was looking for some kind of approval or attention.  I mean wouldn’t you, you’re the only guy in the crowd in a gorilla suit and no one is paying attention.  After watching the first period of the game, I realized this guy in the gorilla suit is not such an idiot.  Our team kept skating by and staring at him and before we knew the gorilla suit guy’s team was up by 3 points and we scored a big fat 0.  The gorilla suit guy kept giving hand signals and jumping up and down, excuse the pun, like a monkey and his team just kept coming fast and pounded us.  By the end of the game the score was 6 – 1 for the gorilla team!  I guess you can say the last laugh was on me.  When the game was finished everyone piled onto the ice, gorilla and all, to shake hands and do the respectable thing.  I didn’t have my camera and it was one of those Kodak moments.  Everyone shaking hands in the lineup and here is gorilla suit guy giving everyone a high-five.  You’ve got to give that man an a for effort – effort that paid off!
